Heifer International

Heifer International
On May 5, 2019, the congregation of Riga church launched a new mission project:  a fundraiser to support Heifer International.  The fundraiser will continue through the end of June.  Our donations will procure flocks of chicks that families living in poverty around the world can raise to provide an income and nourishment.

Refugee Assistance

The congregation of Riga Church supports refugee families settling in the Greater Rochester area by several means:
  • Collecting pennies for PENNIES FOR RICE donates rice to local refugee ministries, such as Refugees Helping Refugees, the Islamic Center and Mary's Place.   To date Riga Church with a shared ministry     with Union Church has collected 4,000 pounds of rice to help refugees transition to our area.  Every Penny Counts!!
  • Once a year much needed SCHOOL SUPPLIES are collected and given to one of the above groups.

SWEM is a community food cupboard serving the southwest region of Rochester/Monroe County.  They provide emergency food bags at satellite sites through requests to a telephone Help-Line.   Riga Church supports SWEM through food donations in the form of bulk food donations as well as holiday baskets.  Some members of our congregation also volunteer to help deliver food bags to their elderly clients each month.
